This is my response to the “Music Project” given to me at university. The brief stated that we had the choice of producing a live performance backdrop, a music video or five short blipverts for a musician of our choice. We had to base our ideas around the genre, feel or lyrics of the song(s) to produce something fitting and eye catching.
I chose to create five short blipverts for the album "Wildlife" by La Dispute. I worked from the poetic hardcore style of the band to create a short narrative about a creepy "lost soul" girl. My girlfriend played the part of the girl and wore an old vintage style dress with her hair over her face, this really worked as a horrific visual and helped build the style. I used simple editing techniques such as speeding up footage, layering footage and adding overlays and flickers to create an old film effect. I also synced the cuts and certain effects to the beat of the songs to further link the visuals to the sound. Overall i am extremely happy with the outcome and hope to do more work like this in the future.
